Digital Story Telling allows people the chance to tell their stories through visual, narrated and musical media. The use of photos (subtle, flashing images for a few seconds each) and the arrangement of those images onto the narrated text creates a powerful, often emotional effect. The challenge of multimodal writing, though, is guiding students to do the intellectual work of authentic composition. When students engage a topic and create new meaning, it will have a higher value. Research supports the idea of facilitating connections for students, and student writing has never been more important for our students. New technologies provide students with vital literacies with which to grow.
